A dispute arose between railway management and local residents near a railway gate on Sunday morning. It began when railway officials and police reached the spot and started putting up barricades on the pedestrian crossing near the gate. The railway had earlier closed this gate and built an underpass, which was quite far for people. Local residents were angered by the situation and raised their voices. They argued that reaching the underpass was very difficult for them because their homes were on the other side of the gate. Local councillor Karunendra Mishra said: “Our homes are near the gate and it has now become impossible for us to reach our homes safely. We have the right to protest against this situation.” Clarifying the matter, a railway official said the step was taken for safety reasons. A senior railway officer said: “We have left a one-foot gap at the gate that can be used for pedestrian movement in emergencies. The route will remain closed to the general public.” Police and GRP personnel reached the spot amid the dispute, but local people continued to voice their concerns. Many also said the railway’s decision was causing them great difficulty in daily life. Local resident Radhika Yadav said: “We go to work by this route every day. Now we will have to take a long detour.” People demanded that the pedestrian path at the gate be kept open.
