The division bench of Justice Subodh Abhyankar and Justice Jai Kumar Pillai passed the order in a petition filed by Amitabh Upadhyay and another person, represented by advocate Abhinav Dhanodkar.

The court observed that cleanliness announcements from garbage vehicles do help alert residents, but said their volume often goes beyond legal limits. The corporation has been asked to submit a compliance report within three weeks.

The bench also gave directions to the police. The station house officer of every police station must appoint two volunteers in each ward to report noise violations. The volunteers can alert the police and record violations on their phones, giving residents who are reluctant to approach the police another route to complain. Police have been told to act promptly on noise complaints as per law.

Every police station in Indore must be given sound-measuring devices. The court noted that at an earlier hearing an officer had brought such a device, but it was not used publicly to record violations or begin action. Police station contact numbers for noise complaints must be published in newspapers and on the Indore Police website.

The bench was also unhappy that the state had not fully complied with its order of September 24, 2026, to publish the list of silence zones. Only newspaper excerpts mentioning the zones were produced. The state must now publish the complete list and invite suggestions on prominent places that may have been left out.

Authorities have been told to place before the court the noise complaints received by police stations across the city and any suo motu cases registered on noise pollution. The court had raised concern about unchecked noise during Navratri and Dussehra and observed that the police appeared helpless in dealing with it.

The matter will next be heard in the week beginning November 23.

The Indore bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court has told the municipal corporation to lower loudspeaker volume on garbage collection vehicles by at least 25 percent and directed police to monitor noise with sound meters and ward-level volunteers.

[426,4
462,459,463
post-1781","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-indore","category-madhya-pradesh-news","tag-high-court","tag-indore","tag-noise-pollution
["GET
