Three students were killed in a road accident in Pithampur, in Madhya Pradesh's Dhar district, on the afternoon of Thursday, October 22. They were riding a single motorcycle home from school when a trolley, a large truck, hit them near the Mahendra Bridge on the Mhow–Neemuch road.

All three riders died at the spot. Two of them were brothers, and the third was their friend. Family members were devastated when they learned of the deaths, and the news left the industrial town in shock.

The report that first covered the accident described the truck as speeding in its headline, but it did not give further details on the speed of the vehicle or the circumstances of the crash. The story was still being updated at the time, and police findings had not been reported.

Pithampur is one of the largest industrial towns in the region, and heavy vehicles use its roads throughout the day. Residents have long complained about road conditions, traffic management and the movement of trucks near schools and residential areas.

The accident quickly became a public issue. Within days, residents and a local citizens' group came together to demand safer roads, and a memorial walk was held at the spot, as reported separately.

Road safety experts generally recommend that two-wheeler riders wear helmets, that triple riding be avoided and that heavy vehicles be kept off school routes during school hours. Police are expected to complete their inquiry into the cause of the crash and to say whether the trolley driver has been arrested. Until then, the exact circumstances remain unconfirmed.
