Residents of Pithampur held a foot march on Sunday, October 25, to pay tribute to three young students who died in a road accident on the Mahendra Bridge road. The march was organised by the Pithampur Bachao Samiti together with local residents, and they gathered at the spot where the victims' bodies had been placed after the crash. People expressed anger at the condition of the roads, what they described as lax repair work and poor traffic management, and blamed the departments concerned. They pointed out that because Pithampur is an industrial town, heavy vehicles travel its roads constantly, and said regular repairs, enforcement of speed limits and traffic control at major intersections are essential.<\/p>\n
The group asked for a technical inspection of the Mahendra Bridge road, quality repairs and safety measures at accident-prone locations. Other demands included signboards for direction and speed limits, controls on the speed of heavy vehicles in residential areas, and support from industrial companies in managing traffic at busy intersections.<\/p>\n
Participants also called for faster completion of the unfinished Indorama flyover and for an alternative route from Vikas Bhawan towards the Sanjay Jalashay to reduce the pressure of heavy vehicles on the main road.<\/p>\n
A memorandum was submitted to the district administration seeking road repairs, better traffic arrangements, speed control for industrial vehicles, completion of stalled construction and financial assistance for the families of the three children.<\/p>\n
Residents warned that if the authorities do not act promptly, they will widen their protest. The administration has not yet announced its response in the report.
