Lokayukta police from Rewa arrested Sanjay Singh, the in-charge Mandal Sanyojak of the Tribal Welfare Department, while he was taking a bribe of \u20b940,000 in Sidhi on Thursday evening, October 22.<\/p>\n
Singh was reportedly demanding \u20b950,000 to release the pending salary of a dismissed cook. The cook, Ashok Kumar Yogi, was a daily-wage worker who had been removed from his job in 2006 when staffing numbers were reduced.<\/p>\n
After verifying the complaint, Lokayukta police laid a trap. The arrest was made at about 6:30 pm at the department's office inside the Collectorate. A 15-member team led by Inspector Naresh Behra carried out the operation.<\/p>\n
Singh's regular post is that of a superintendent. The role of Superintendent Sunita Pandey is also being investigated, and both officials face charges under the Prevention of Corruption Act. After the arrest, Singh was taken to the circuit house in Sidhi for further legal procedures.<\/p>\n
The case highlights how a worker who lost his job nearly two decades ago was still struggling to receive money owed to him. Complaints of this kind can be reported to the Lokayukta, which runs trap operations on the basis of verified complaints.<\/p>\n
Being arrested does not amount to a conviction, and the officials will have the chance to defend themselves in court. The investigation will look at whether any other person was involved in the demand for money.<\/p>\n
