A video showing Dhirendra Krishna Shastri, head of Bageshwar Dham, receiving a guard of honour from men in black uniforms during a visit to Maihar in Madhya Pradesh has gone viral. On October 24, Maihar Superintendent of Police Awadhesh Pratap Singh clarified the matter, saying that claims that Indian Army personnel had given the honour were misleading.

The SP told Patrika that the salute came from private security guards of the KJS Cement Factory, whose uniforms resemble army uniforms, and that this caused the confusion. Shastri was visiting at the invitation of Pawan Ahluwalia and Nalin, directors of the KJS company.

Social media users had questioned who authorised the honour and on what basis, and one user asked what constitutional office Shastri holds. Some users also criticised the BJP over the video.

At a Sanatan Samvad event held on Friday, Shastri announced plans for a Bageshwar Balaji Shakti Math in Maihar, to be built on the KJS campus. The idea took shape in talks with the two company directors. He indicated that he would visit Maihar regularly and said the math could serve devotees from Rewa, Satna, Katni, Shahdol, Sidhi and nearby areas.

Maihar is best known for the Sharda Mata temple, one of the main pilgrimage centres of the Vindhya region, and large crowds visit it during Navratri. The announcement of a new religious institution is likely to be followed closely by residents. No timeline or cost for the proposed math has been announced.

The clarification matters because videos shared on social media often spread quickly without context, and a short clip can give a wrong impression of who is present at an event. Readers are advised to wait for statements from the police or the organisers before sharing such videos, especially when they involve public figures and uniformed personnel.
