Four members of a single family died within 24 hours of a suspected illness (vomiting and diarrhoea) in Nirala Nagar, Ward No. 9, Rewa city. The incident caused panic in the area, and people within a radius of about one kilometre shut themselves in their homes. A climate of fear prevailed in the neighbourhood.<\/p>\n
As soon as the health department was informed, a medical team reached the spot to investigate. During this, a shocking incident occurred: a woman sitting on the floor of the house suddenly collapsed and died on the spot. Her death in front of the team caused commotion among the health staff as well.<\/p>\n
Family member Dadan Kol said that Chhutni Prasad Kol (65), Devrati Kol (70), Jyoti Kol (18) and 1.5-year-old Betu Kol had died. Five others, including Moliya Kol, Rajkumari Kol and Butna Kol, were still in serious condition and had been admitted to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital.<\/p>\n
The family accused the health department of negligence in treatment and of providing no government assistance for the last rites after the deaths. The bereaved relatives appealed to Health Minister Rajendra Shukla for help.<\/p>\n
Given the seriousness of the matter, Rewa MP Janardan Mishra reprimanded health officials and asked them to investigate the incident promptly and take action.<\/p>\n
Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr Sanjeev Shukla said the causes of the vomiting and diarrhoea were being investigated. The department\u2019s team had reached the spot, and samples from all those affected had been sent for testing. Contaminated water or food was initially considered the possible cause, but this could be confirmed only after the report arrived.<\/p>\n
