Each eligible student received Rs 25,000 through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) with a single click. He announced that from the next year, instead of the incentive amount, talented students would be given updated laptops worth Rs 25,000. He also distributed laptops to 15 meritorious students on stage and took selfies with the children.

Dr Yadav said it was the state government’s duty to honour talent and help in every way. Among the students given laptop money, 60 per cent were girls and 40 per cent boys; he said the state’s daughters were overcoming challenges and moving ahead in every field. The scheme, started 15 years earlier, had benefited more than 4.32 lakh meritorious students, and the state had spent over Rs 1,080 crore on it. A laptop was not just a device but a powerful means of preparing for a bright future. The government had also provided books, uniforms, bicycles and scooties, and was now giving laptops too, which would help connect students with digital and modern education.

Government schools outperformed private schools in results

Dr Yadav said the state government was paying special attention to school education, and the board exam result that year was 52 per cent in government schools and 48 per cent in private schools. In 2025, about 49,000 government school students and more than 44,000 private school students received the laptop incentive. The scheme began in 2009 with an 85 per cent cut-off and only 500 students receiving laptop money; the number had grown to 94,234. The government had recently given scooties to 15,600 students who scored over 85 per cent in the board exams. He said books should also be given as prizes, because books were a person’s best companions.

Government supporting meritorious students in higher education too

Dr Yadav said the government was supporting talented students beyond school as well. The full fees for medical and engineering studies of meritorious students were being paid by the government. If a student cleared NEET, medical education became free, with the state paying about Rs 80 lakh in fees for the entire course. New medical colleges were being opened, the state would have 36 by the end of the financial year, and the target was 50 in the next two years. Whatever course students wanted to study, the government stood with them. He urged children to study hard and move ahead, but to love their home state, serve their people and always remember the motherland.

Gems from government schools

Dr Yadav said many “gems” (gudri ke lal) had emerged from government schools despite limited resources. He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he himself and all cabinet colleagues had received their early education in government schools.

PM Modi started DBT, bringing transparency

Dr Yadav said the country had advanced rapidly towards digitalisation under Prime Minister Modi’s guidance. The Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana began in the tenure of the late Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and the Golden Quadrilateral connected the four directions of the country. DBT was launched in Modi’s tenure, bringing wide transparency to governance, and opening zero-balance Jan Dhan accounts for the poor was a revolutionary step. Before 2013, he said, no one had paid attention to this. With Guru Purnima a few days away, he noted that the state government had renamed the post of vice-chancellor as Kulguru.

Organ and body donors to be honoured

Dr Yadav said the government had recently decided to encourage organ and body donation. Families of donors would be honoured at the January 26 and August 15 events, and donors of the body or of heart, liver and kidney would be given a guard of honour at their final farewell.

Presiding over the programme, School Education and Transport Minister Uday Pratap Singh said the government had promoted modern technology along with infrastructure development in schools. He said it was the first time laptop money was given in the first week of July of the academic session, and that books had also been supplied at the start of the session.

As a special guest, Tribal Affairs, Public Asset Management and Bhopal Gas Relief and Rehabilitation Minister Dr Kunwar Vijay Shah said the initiative would prove a milestone and help make Madhya Pradesh a leading state in digital education. He said the government had sanctioned Rs 25 crore each for 100-seat hostels in every division for tribal students preparing for all-India competitions.

Bhopal MP Alok Sharma, MLAs Rameshwar Sharma, Vishnu Khatri and Bhagwandas Sabnani, Jabalpur MLA Abhilash Pandey, Bhopal Mayor Malti Rai, Commissioner of Public Instruction Shilpa Gupta, Ravindra Yati, other public representatives, senior officials, teachers, and students and their families were also present.

The 15 meritorious students who received laptops

On stage, Dr Yadav presented laptops to Priyal Dwivedi of Maihar (492 marks), Harsh Pandey of Satna (490), Ankur Yadav of Rewa (489), Abhay Singh of Sidhi (489), Aryan Pandey of Rewa (488), Hina Devi of Shahdol (488), Nishu Pandit of Bhopal (487), Pranjal Kushwaha of Bhopal (487), Hariom Sahu of Chhindwara (486), Raghuveer Gautam of Dindori (484), Gargi Agrawal of Damoh (484), Divyanshu Tiwari of Sidhi (484), Deepika Singh of Satna (483), Parth Rathore of Sehore (483) and Yogyata Tank of Bhind (478). The marks were out of 500.

In his welcome address, School Education Secretary Dr Sanjay Goyal said the number of students under the scheme had risen by over 4,500 from the previous year, which proved how well government schools were teaching.

Dr Yadav inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp. The ceremony was broadcast live in all districts, where ministers, MPs, MLAs and Zila Panchayat presidents attended district-level events as chief guests.

Students thanked the Chief Minister

Nishu Pandit of Subhash Excellence School, who made the state merit list with 97 per cent in Class 12, said: “My goal is to become a CA, for which I need technology. It will contribute greatly to my studies.”

Pranjal Kushwaha of the same school, who ranked fourth in the state merit list in commerce, said: “I am preparing for CA.
