Forest Department Additional Chief Secretary Ashok Barnwal and Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) Shubhranjan Sen were also present at the meeting.

At the meeting the Deputy Chief Minister said the efforts being made at the Govindgarh tiger breeding centre towards tiger conservation and promotion were commendable. Madhya Pradesh was continuously strengthening its identity as the ‘Tiger State’. He said inter-state cooperation in wildlife conservation was essential, as it helped preserve biodiversity.

The Deputy Chief Minister directed that necessary action be ensured to finalise at the earliest the wildlife exchange proposal pending with the Central Zoo Authority, New Delhi. He said the Govindgarh tiger breeding centre would be developed as a model for wildlife tourism, biodiversity conservation and research. For this, work on infrastructure development, deployment of expert resources and technical guidance should begin promptly.

Govindgarh’s historical and biological heritage

Govindgarh was famous not only for its natural beauty and forest surroundings but had also historically been a major centre of wildlife conservation. The world-famous white tiger ‘Mohan’ was also kept in the Govindgarh fort, because the environment here was extremely suitable for him. History records that the white tiger was first discovered in the forests of Govindgarh and Sidhi, which brought India pride across the world.

This distinctiveness of Govindgarh still made the area best suited for wildlife conservation. Its climate, dense forest, natural water sources and biodiversity provided a safe and balanced habitat for tigers and other wildlife.

A new step towards national importance

The proposed wildlife exchange with Karnataka’s Pilikula Biological Park was expected not only to promote cooperation between the two states but also to help Govindgarh regain national recognition. The government’s aim was to establish the Govindgarh tiger breeding centre as a national model in conservation, research, environmental education and eco-tourism.

Senior journalist Dr Ramesh Budholiya

Senior journalist Dr Ramesh Budholiya said that,

for Govindgarh this initiative was a matter of pride for the Rewa division, and it was also an important step towards making Madhya Pradesh a leading state in wildlife conservation.

[5

post-463","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-rewa-news
["GET
