A memorandum was submitted on the instructions of Shahdol district Congress president Anupam Gautam, led by district general secretary Priyanshu Chaubey (Sonu) and presided over by Sohagpur block president Sheikh Sajil (Sunny). Its contents were as follows.<\/p>\n

Memorandum on curbing the activities of illegal scrap dealers. Sir, it is respectfully submitted that the number of illegal scrap dealers in the town and area is continuously rising. They are alleged to be involved in encouraging theft, robbery and anti-social elements. Through them, stolen iron, copper, electric wires, government property and citizens\u2019 belongings are allegedly being bought and sold, worsening law and order. The activities of these scrap dealers are said to be raising criminal incidents and endangering peace and security in the area. Thefts are increasing every day, and thieves sell stolen goods directly to scrap dealers.<\/p>\n

Youth Congress demands<\/h3>\n

1. Immediate investigation of illegal scrap dealers operating in urban and rural areas.<\/p>\n

2. Scrap trade operating without licence should be shut down.<\/p>\n

3. Police administration should be directed to keep regular watch on scrap dealers\u2019 activities.<\/p>\n

4. Strict punitive action against scrap dealers who buy and sell stolen goods.<\/p>\n

5. Local administration should conduct surprise inspections of scrap markets and shops from time to time.<\/p>\n

Through the Congress members, we wish to draw your attention to resolving the above problems. It is requested that prompt and effective action be taken against illegal scrap dealers to strengthen law and order, and Youth Congress Shahdol has demanded appropriate action soon.
