Communication had contributed greatly to the country\u2019s progress, he said, and this too was a result of his foresight. He described the lowering of the voting age for the youth, the decentralisation of the Panchayati Raj system and the greater powers given to panchayats as milestones. He also took many steps toward social justice and bringing the person at the last rung into the mainstream of society. He said that those present not only saluted him but also thanked him for his successful efforts.
