Owing to official neglect, some parks had broken benches, some had no lights, some had no security guards, and in some the swings meant for children were completely damaged. In the rainy season grass had grown all over these parks, adding the risk of insects.

Parks built for children in the city in disrepair

Tagore Park: Equipment in poor state. At the district headquarters’ Tagore Park, the swings and other equipment had rusted, and children got hurt playing on them. This was the result of poor maintenance, and in the rains their condition had deteriorated further. There was also a greater fear of snakes and scorpions there, as the grass growing all around had not been cleared. Hedgewar Park: Nothing left. In Dr Hedgewar Park, built right next to the Sangh office, neither benches nor swings for children were intact. The park was now kept locked, and nearby shopkeepers dumped garbage there. It had been colourful for a few days at the start, but now looked entirely gloomy, deserted and desolate. Shaheed Park: A gathering place for drunkards. The municipality had yet to develop Shaheed Park, close to the Kotwali police station. In the daytime university students could be seen sitting and chatting there, but by evening antisocial elements and drunkards gathered. The situation was not good there either. The railway park had completely lost its beauty. Nothing was left in the children’s garden near the GDC in Pandavnagar. Vivekananda Park was often found locked. The benches around Suman Sarovar were broken, with nowhere to sit.

[4

post-930","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-madhya-pradesh-news
["GET
