When there was no improvement, he was referred to Jabalpur Medical College, where he died. He had developed a fever and later contracted pneumonia; his condition deteriorated to the point that doctors could not save him. His relatives alleged that the hostel superintendent, Ramesh Dwivedi, did not get him timely treatment and took him to hospital only after his condition had worsened. Students at the hostel also said that Raja had been running a fever for several days and had told the staff, but it was taken lightly, and he was taken to hospital only when he began to deteriorate, which led to his death. Both of the deceased\u2019s parents had died.
