BJP workers raised loud slogans such as “Rahul Gandhi murdabad” and “Insulting mothers is Congress’s identity”. A large crowd soon gathered at the spot, and supporters of both parties began trading sharp remarks.

The matter related to Rahul Gandhi’s Voter Adhikar Yatra in Bihar, where a video went viral in which Congress workers allegedly used abusive language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi from the stage. The BJP launched a sharp attack on Rahul Gandhi and the Congress over the incident.

BJP district president Virendra Gupta said: “This yatra of Rahul Gandhi has become not a Voter Adhikar Yatra but an ‘insult the mother’ yatra. Congress workers are repeatedly insulting women, and Rahul Gandhi is supporting it by staying silent. The BJP will not tolerate this at all.”

BJP leaders alleged that Congress politics was by then based on abusive language and social division. They warned that if such acts were repeated in future, there would be a more aggressive agitation on the streets.

The Congress, on the other hand, called the entire episode a BJP conspiracy. Rewa Mayor and senior Congress leader Ajay Mishra Baba rejected the BJP’s allegations, saying: “The BJP is rattled by the public support Rahul Gandhi’s Voter Adhikar Yatra is getting across the country. To divert attention from real public issues such as unemployment, inflation and corruption, the BJP is creating such controversies.”

Congress leaders claimed the BJP’s effigy burning was merely an attempt to attract media attention and vitiate the atmosphere. They said the aim of Rahul Gandhi’s yatra was to make citizens aware of their constitutional rights, and that it would not stop at any cost.
