The district Congress, led by Shahdol District Congress Committee president Ajay Awasthi, submitted a memorandum to the Shahdol Superintendent of Police seeking adequate security for state Congress president Jitu Patwari and an end to the growing drug trade in the state. In the memorandum, district president Ajay Awasthi said: “Yesterday, 31 August 2025, during Shri Jitu Patwari’s visit to Ratlam, unknown persons gathered, created a violent atmosphere and carried out a life-threatening attack on him. Such attacks have occurred on Shri Jitu Patwari before, but the government is not serious about his security. We would like to inform you that the state has become a stronghold of drugs; new drug factories are being discovered constantly and material worth crores of rupees is being recovered from them. State Congress president Shri Patwari has been running a continuous campaign against drugs and is agitating continuously so that the state becomes drug-free and does not become a ‘Udta Pradesh’. It cannot be ruled out that he is being attacked repeatedly for this reason, so that he falls silent on this issue. Doubt about the government’s seriousness over his security also arises because photographs of arrested drug traders with BJP leaders keep appearing on social media. It cannot be ruled out that these accused enjoy political protection, and that is why their confidence has grown to the point that they dare to have the state Congress president attacked. We request you to issue instructions to provide adequate security to state Congress president Shri Jitu Patwari and also to take concrete steps to end the spreading drug trade in the state.”
