Hyundai has opened bookings for the Bayon, a compact SUV that will slot between the Venue and the Creta in its Indian line-up, for a token amount of Rs 11,000. Business Today reported on 24 September that bookings can be made on Hyundai India’s website or at any authorised dealership. The carmaker has not yet announced ex-showroom prices.

Carlelo reported on 13 October that Hyundai had revealed the India-spec model and that its official launch is set for 26 October, with deliveries timed for the festive period. Business Today had earlier said only that sales were expected in October and that no official date had been confirmed. The Carlelo report adds that customers who book before the launch will get priority allocation, and that the Rs 11,000 token is refundable until the vehicle is billed.

Both publications say the Bayon will use a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine making about 115 PS and 144 Nm, paired with either a six-speed manual or an IVT automatic gearbox. Business Today says the engine is the one used in the Creta. Carlelo points out that this differs from the Bayon sold in Europe, which uses a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine. Business Today puts the length at about 4.2 metres and quotes Hyundai as saying the India-spec model is built on the Global K Enhanced Platform, "engineered for 5-star Indian safety standards". No crash-test result has been reported yet.

On features, Hyundai has highlighted a generative AI voice assistant, a curved dual-screen layout with two 12.3-inch displays, vertical air-conditioning controls, a logoless steering wheel and a wireless phone charger. Carlelo adds that the infotainment system supports 10 Indian regional languages and more than 500 offline voice commands. It lists ventilated front seats, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an electric sunroof, ambient lighting and a powered driver’s seat. For safety, Carlelo lists six airbags, electronic stability control, hill-start assist and a Level 2 driver-assistance suite with autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist and adaptive cruise control. Business Today treats some of these items, including the sunroof, ADAS and ventilated seats, as expected rather than confirmed.

Pricing remains an estimate. Business Today says industry estimates range from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 15 lakh, with some forecasts narrowing the range to Rs 10 lakh to Rs 12.5 lakh. Carlelo places the Bayon in a bracket of Rs 9.50 lakh to Rs 15 lakh, although another section of its own page lists Rs 9.79 lakh to Rs 17.50 lakh. These are unofficial figures and the real prices could differ.

Buyers considering a booking may wish to wait for the announced prices and the full variant list before deciding, since features and prices have not been confirmed by the company. The photograph with this article shows the Bayon sold in Europe and is a file image; the India-spec car differs in engine and, according to the reports, in some equipment.
