The programme began with mangalacharan and the Shri Krishna aarti. The inmates then presented a lively depiction of Krishna’s leelas through devotional songs, dance, bhajan-sankirtan and tableaux. The enthusiasm and dedication of the prisoners in the cultural performances were remarkable.
Speaking to the media, Jail Superintendent S K Upadhyay said: “Religious and cultural events like Janmashtami steer prisoners towards positive thinking. This programme inspires them to reflect on themselves and give their energy a constructive direction. Such occasions not only awaken enthusiasm and hope among inmates but also give them a chance to reconnect with the mainstream of society.”

He added that the jail administration organised such cultural and spiritual programmes from time to time to boost prisoners’ morale and bring about positive change in their lives.
Officers and staff present at the programme also appreciated the inmates’ enthusiasm. Many prisoners said the Janmashtami event reminded them of home and family.
Even within the high walls of the jail, the day had an atmosphere of devotion, joy and delight. The Krishna Janmashtami celebration became a memorable cultural evening in the history of Rewa Central Jail.
