The high-handedness of officers was being openly exposed at the Rewa registration office, where the registry officer posted there was allegedly getting registry work done by private persons at will. These private workers had been appointed neither as outsourced staff nor on contract, yet they allegedly posed as office employees, tampered with the computers kept there and colluded in registering fake land deals. Meanwhile, District Registrar Sandhya Singh, who was responsible for the office, was watching the acts of her subordinates in silence.

Fake registries added to public trouble

Cases of fake land registries regularly emerged from the registration office. In them, a fake Aadhaar card was allegedly made in the name of someone else’s private land or government land to create a landowner, and the land was sold to an unsuspecting person. The buyer then went around government offices with the registry papers, unable to get the land’s map, khasra or loan passbook. In this game, the same private persons posted in the registration office were said to collude and pass large sums up to the registrar.

Private persons did all registry work

It was being said that private persons working illegally in the registration office tampered with government computers and carried out all registry work, including photographing the parties and taking signatures. In addition, any outsider could touch the computers kept in the office without any objection from department employees, so important documents’ information was also leaked, keeping fraudsters active. The office had two sub-registrars who were assigned the work of land registration. Only they were required to verify government documents, but even this work was allegedly done through private persons appointed by the registrar in an irregular manner. Those responsible were turning away from their responsibility.

The District Registrar said

There are only two registrars in our office for registrations. If any other employees work here, I have no knowledge of it, and even if fake work is happening, it does not come under my responsibility.
