The plight of cattle in Rewa district was becoming a serious problem. Because of poor management and low capacity in cow shelters, large numbers of cows sat on the roads, leading to frequent vehicle accidents. Villagers expressed concern over the situation.

Mahila Congress state vice-president Kavita Pandey said the gathering of cattle on roads caused trouble for the public. At night, two-wheeler riders often fell victim to accidents. On Saturday, a driver collided with a pregnant cow near the radio station in Gudh, leaving the cow seriously injured.

Kavita Pandey alleged that cow shelters were built across the district at a cost of crores of rupees but had turned into ruins for lack of proper management. Many shelters lay empty and existed only on paper. She asked who was receiving the grant released every month in the name of shelters where no activity was taking place.

Villagers also said that hundreds of cow shelters were shown as operating on paper and crores in funds were drawn in the name of cows, while on the ground grazing lands had disappeared and stray cows then wandered the roads.

On the matter, Zila Panchayat CEO Mehtab Singh Gurjar said the administration was keeping a constant watch on the situation and was focusing on improving the arrangements at cow shelters.
