The Culture Department organised ‘Shri Krishna Parv’, “Haldhar Mahotsav and Leela Purushottam Ka Pragatotsav”, at Krishna Rajkapoor Auditorium. The gently flowing Beehar river bore witness to presentations of Krishna’s sacred leelas. Durva Namdev of Sagar, Manimala Singh of Rewa, and Ravi Tripathi and group of Mumbai presented devotional songs. Manimala Singh of Rewa brought Indian tradition and folk tales alive with her sweet voice. She began with the Ganesh vandana “Aaj ki raat ruk jana Gajanand hamri nagariya mein”, followed by the sohar song “Bhado rain bhayavan...”, the badhai song “Badhava Nand ke ghar aaj...”, “Baji-baji re badhaiyan badi door...”, the jhoola song “Jhoola pada kadam ki dali...” and “Hindoli sovat Kanha ki maya goharam...”.

Durva Namdev of Sagar presented the Badhai dance of the Bundelkhand region, performed at births, weddings and festivals. Badhai was also danced in temples when a vow was fulfilled. Both women and men danced with great joy. Elderly women danced badhai in the courtyard on the birth of grandchildren, delighted at the growth of the family line, and distributed gifts. The dancers’ joyful faces, footwork, graceful movements and colourful costumes captivated the audience. Instruments such as the dhapla, timki, ramtula and flute were used. Ravi Tripathi and fellow artists performed songs including “More Krishna more Krishna...”, “Yashomati maiya se...”, “Vrindavan ka Krishna Kanhaiya...”, “Shyam teri bansi...”, “Ik Radha ik Meera...”, “Govinda aala re...”, “Badi der bhai Nandlala...”, “Govind bolo Hari Gopal bolo...”, “Shri Krishna Govind Hare Murari...” and “Kabhi Ram banke kabhi Shyam banke”.
