The Hindu Muslim Ekta Manch raised concern over the state of Umaria’s cow shelters and deaths of cows at the Mudgudi shelter, demanding inspections and action against those responsible.

Memorandum submitted to the Umaria Collector over the plight of cow shelters
The memorandum was presented under the leadership of the Manch’s founder Mo. Aslam Sher and district convener Rajendra Kol, with other members of the organisation present. It described the pitiable condition of the cow shelter in Gram Panchayat Mudgudi, which had a capacity to care for about 100 stray, injured and old cows. It said the government had provided adequate funds for its upkeep and pasture development. In 2021-22, a pasture was also developed on 6 acres of land near the shelter at a cost of about Rs 20 lakh, yet the animals were getting neither enough fodder nor proper shelter. The Manch’s office-bearers demanded that all cow shelters in the district be inspected and their needs met so that such incidents did not recur. They also demanded punitive action against those responsible for the animal deaths at the Mudgudi shelter. While submitting the memorandum, members said the issue concerned not only animal rights but also human sensitivity and could not be ignored.
