In Ghoghri village, a 65-year-old man allegedly killed his younger brother with an axe over a land dispute and suspicion of witchcraft. Police arrested the accused within a few hours and recovered the weapon.

On 11 August, Sukhdev Kodle lodged a report at Mohkhed police station saying his father, 60-year-old Devaram Kodle, had gone to the forest on the morning of 10 August to graze cattle and had not returned by evening. When the family went looking, he was found dead face down near a teak tree, with serious marks of a blow from a sharp weapon on his head. Police registered a case and began an investigation.

Under the direction of SP Nivedita Gupta, ASP Ayush Gupta and DSP Rameshwar Chaubey, station in-charge Khelchand Patle and post in-charge Parasnath Armo raided and caught the accused, Sevaram Kodle (65). In questioning, the accused reportedly confessed that he had been nursing a grudge over a years-old land dispute and suspicion that his younger brother practised witchcraft. On the day of the incident, an argument broke out over grazing cattle, and in a fit of rage he struck him with an axe and killed him, he is said to have told police.

On the accused’s pointing out, police recovered the axe used in the killing and other evidence, and produced him in court.
