A case came to light in which, under the influence of social media and a modern lifestyle, girls ignored family restrictions and left home in search of freedom. Four minor girls left their homes in Morwa police station area without telling anyone, and police traced them safely in Patna, Bihar. The action was taken under Operation Muskaan run by police headquarters. Under the direction of Superintendent of Police Manish Khatri and the guidance of Additional SP Abhishek Ranjan and SDOP Gaurav Pandey, Morwa station in-charge Inspector Umesh Pratap Singh achieved the success.

On the previous Thursday, a resident of Bhagat Singh Colony filed a complaint at Morwa police station that his 13-year-old daughter Rekha (name changed) had left home, saying she was going to a birthday party, along with three friends: Nisha, 14, Jyoti, 16, and Monika, 12 (all names changed).

When the four did not return by late evening, their families grew worried. Searches at relatives’ homes, the bus stand and the railway station yielded no clue, after which the matter was reported to the police. Police registered crime no. 538/25 under Section 137(2) of the BNS and began an investigation. Given the seriousness of the incident, two special teams were formed to search for them.

Help from the cyber cell

Police contacted the cyber cell and advanced the probe on the basis of mobile phone locations.

The team faced difficulty as the location kept changing and the phone was switched off, but after persistent efforts a clue emerged. The team first reached Hazaribagh, Jharkhand, then moved towards Patna, Bihar, as the location changed. Eventually three girls were recovered near the IIT college campus in Patna and the fourth from village Medhauli.

Handed over safely to families

After legal formalities, all the recovered girls were handed over safely to their families. The families praised the police’s swift action and the role of the cyber cell.

Sub-inspectors Sanjeet Singh, Santosh Singh and Sunil Dubey, woman head constable Shakuntala Yadav, head constable Ajit Singh, and constables Riyaz Alam, Rishi Singh and Ajay Yadav, along with the cyber cell team, made important contributions to the operation.
