MP Mishra said Sriniwas Tiwari had 1,000 votes in one room; grandson MLA Siddharth hit back
Rewa BJP MP Janardan Mishra alleged fake voting in the era of the late Sriniwas Tiwari. MLA Siddharth Tiwari, Tiwari’s grandson, objected, and MP Congress chief Jitu Patwari also reacted.

Rewa politics heated up again over allegations of irregularities in voter lists and fake voting. Rewa BJP MP Janardan Mishra made a serious allegation of fake voting against senior Congress leader and former Madhya Pradesh Assembly Speaker, the late Sriniwas Tiwari. As soon as the MP’s statement emerged, the Congress hit back, and infighting within the BJP also came to light.

Addressing a gathering on Sunday, MP Mishra said, “In Sriniwas Tiwari’s time there used to be 1,000 votes in one room.” Repeating the claim twice, he alleged that the late Tiwari used to win elections through fake voting.
When the video went viral on Monday, it caused a stir in Rewa politics. MP Mishra had questioned the late Tiwari before as well. At the 2024 inauguration of the overbridge at Subhash Chauraha, he had taken a dig at Tiwari’s tenure, saying that roads were full of potholes in his time, yet people used to call him ‘Daiyu’ (god). At that time too, BJP MLA Siddharth Tiwari had called the remark improper.

Teonthar MLA Siddharth Tiwari, grandson of Sriniwas Tiwari, reacted sharply to the MP’s statement. He said:
If the MP has any personal problem with me, he should say so directly, but repeatedly dragging my late grandfather in is improper.
He had earlier also warned the MP over a similar remark made from a stage.

Madhya Pradesh Congress president Jitu Patwari described the MP’s statement as proof of BJP factionalism and double standards. He wrote on social media:
Rewa’s BJP MP himself admits there used to be rigging in the voter list. He says 1,000 votes in one room, and 1,100 turned up. He had himself conducted the inquiry. Now let the BJP tell us what the truth is.

Notably, Sriniwas Tiwari was Speaker of the Madhya Pradesh Assembly from 1993 to 2003 and was counted among the Congress’s tallest leaders. He died on January 19, 2018, aged 91. His grandson Siddharth Tiwari left the Congress and joined the BJP in 2023.
