Stray dog menace in Rewa: over 600 patients a month at Sanjay Gandhi Hospital as sterilisation stalled
Sanjay Gandhi Hospital management asked the municipal commissioner to act on stray dogs on its premises; the hospital said over 600 people came monthly for rabies shots after the sterilisation tender lapsed.
The management of Sanjay Gandhi Hospital in Rewa expressed concern over the growing threat of stray dogs on the hospital premises and demanded action from the municipal commissioner. The administration said stray dogs were entering the premises and attacking patients and their relatives, while dog-bite cases were rising rapidly across the city.

According to hospital management, the problem became more serious after the sterilisation tender ended. Figures showed that more than 600 people came every month to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital alone for rabies injections.
14-year-old died after dog bite
Nitin Nat, 14, a resident of Narendra Nagar in the Amahiya police station area, had come to his maternal aunt’s house during the summer holidays. On June 16 he was playing in the park in front of the house when a stray dog bit him on the neck. His family immediately took him to hospital, where he was given three rabies injections, but 23 days later his condition worsened and he died. Before his death, his behaviour had become dog-like. The tragic incident shook the whole city.
Municipal corporation’s response
Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Sonawane said the sterilisation tender had lapsed midway and was being put through the process again. The work was to begin soon so that people would get relief from the dog-bite problem.
