On August 8, Vivek Singh, the manager posted at the BSNL exchange office, filed a complaint at Morwa police station saying that several batteries had been stolen from the exchange office on August 6. Morwa inspector Umesh Pratap Singh registered a case and began the investigation under the directions of Superintendent of Police Manish Khatri and the guidance of SDOP Gaurav Pandey. In the initial investigation, with the help of CCTV footage, the police team learned that an unidentified person had carried off the batteries on a motorcycle in three trips, but the thief’s face was not clearly visible as the thefts took place at night. Taking the investigation a step further, Morwa police collected details of people who had visited the BSNL exchange to get Aadhaar cards made. On that basis, they kept watch on the movements of suspect Manoj Saket, 29, son of Rampal Saket, a resident of Panjreh. Manoj was trying to sell the batteries when police caught him. Police seized the batteries along with the motorcycle used in the theft and produced the accused in court. Sub-inspector N.P. Tiwari, assistant sub-inspectors Umesh Agnihotri and D.N. Singh, and head constable Arjun Singh were part of the operation.
