Commercial LPG cylinder prices in Madhya Pradesh went up by ₹62.50 to ₹65 from October 1, following an increase of up to ₹70 announced nationwide by oil marketing companies. Rewa now has the costliest commercial cylinder in the state at ₹3,066.

Other districts are close behind. Singrauli is at ₹3,064, Satna and Narsinghpur at ₹3,063.50, Katni at ₹3,062.50 and Panna at ₹3,061. Among the larger cities, Gwalior stands at ₹3,037, Jabalpur at ₹3,030, Ujjain at ₹2,980, Indore at ₹2,919 and Bhopal at ₹2,815. Shajapur and Sehore have the lowest rates mentioned, at ₹2,822. In all, commercial cylinders cost ₹3,000 or more in 26 districts.

Domestic cylinders were not affected. Their prices stay at ₹947.50 in Bhopal, ₹970 in Indore, ₹948.50 in Jabalpur, ₹1,025.50 in Gwalior and ₹1,001.50 in Ujjain.

The increase has worried restaurant owners. Abhishek Baheti of the National Restaurant Association of India said commercial cylinders cost about ₹1,800 before a gas crisis and later reached ₹3,300. Prices were reduced afterwards, but two consecutive increases over the past two months have pushed up costs for eateries.

Caterers in Bhopal have warned that the hike could make wedding catering more expensive, since the wedding season begins after Diwali. For Rewa, the figure is a reminder that prices differ between districts because of freight and distribution costs. Businesses that depend on commercial gas will be watching the next monthly revision.

Commercial cylinders are used mainly by restaurants, tea stalls, sweet shops and small caterers, so a rise of this kind tends to show up first in their running costs. Whether those costs are passed on to customers depends on each business. Readers should check the latest rates with their local distributor, since oil companies revise prices at the start of each month.
