Amarkantak, the Narmada's source town in Anuppur district, recorded the lowest night temperature of the season in Madhya Pradesh at 13 degrees Celsius, according to a weather report published on October 24. It was the first time this season that night temperatures dropped to around 13°C in parts of the state.

Other places that recorded cool nights included Karaundi in Katni at 13.1°C, Damoh at 14.5°C and Shajapur at 15.6°C. Marukheda in Neemuch, Rewa and Umaria recorded 15.8°C each. Daytime temperatures also fell by one to two degrees, with Bhopal's maximum below 35°C. Khajuraho, Ratlam, Guna, Khandwa, Chhatarpur, Gwalior, Balaghat, Rajgarh, Ujjain, Mandla and Sagar also had maximum temperatures below 35°C.

The India Meteorological Department said rain in western Madhya Pradesh had stopped after eight days of continuous rainfall. It expects clear weather across the state for the next four days, with no rain or storm alerts for any region. Night temperatures may fall by a further two to three degrees in the coming days.

Rainfall may return in the last week of October, when a new weather system is expected to affect the north-western parts of the state. The final week could therefore bring both rain and cooler weather.

On Friday, October 23, cloudy skies and scattered rain were reported in several parts of the state, and a cyclonic circulation had a stronger effect on the Indore and Ujjain divisions. The Rewa, Jabalpur and Shahdol divisions were sunny.

Amarkantak is a popular pilgrimage and tourist destination, and the first chill of the season usually brings more visitors to the Narmada kund and the surrounding forests. Visitors are advised to carry warm clothes for early mornings and evenings.
