A 40-year-old contractor died after molten iron spilled over him at the JD Steel Plant in Durg's Borai-Rasmada industrial area, and police have registered an FIR for negligence against the plant director and one other person.

A contractor died after being severely burned by molten iron at the JD Steel Plant in the Borai-Rasmada industrial area of Durg district. The incident reportedly took place at about 1 am on October 17, and the report was published on October 22.
The victim, Santosh Kumar Shrivastava, 40, from Champaran in Bihar, had recently been given contract work at the plant. While he was inspecting a machine in the upper section, a large quantity of molten iron, reportedly at 1,500 to 1,600 degrees Celsius, spilled over him.
He was taken to JLN Hospital in Bhilai and died at about 3:30 am the same day.
Police have registered an FIR for negligence against the plant's director, Ravi Kumar Goyal, and one other person under Sections 289 and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Station House Officer Chandrashekhar Soni of Anjora Police Post confirmed the FIR. Police say preliminary findings point to negligent conduct during plant operations, while the exact sequence of events and any safety or procedural lapses are still being investigated.
A video that reportedly shows the incident is circulating on social media, showing a burning man running down a staircase while others try to help him.
The death has again drawn attention to safety at steel and metal plants, where workers and contractors handle extremely hot material. Inspections by the labour and factory authorities, along with safety training and protective gear, are generally expected to prevent such accidents. The outcome of the police investigation will show whether those rules were followed.
