Police preparations for the 2028 Simhastha fair at Omkareshwar in Khandwa district are moving quickly. Construction projects of the police department worth ₹48.33 crore are in their final stage and are planned for completion by December, according to a report published on October 24.

Lakhs of pilgrims are expected at Omkareshwar, so the police are planning crowd control, traffic management and security. The projects include barracks, quarters for non-gazetted staff and for police officers, a hostel for gazetted officers and a training institute building.

A police control room near the Mandhata police station has already been completed and will help with monitoring and coordination during the fair. In addition, a ₹10 crore integrated control room is planned that will keep watch over areas as far as Barwaha, Sanawad and Mortakka.

Police Superintendent Agam Jain said the works would be finished by December, well before the Simhastha, so that arrangements run smoothly.

The report also noted a concern: work by other departments is lagging behind, and bridges have not yet been built. That raises questions about how pilgrims will move around the town during the fair, since police arrangements depend on roads, bridges and ghats being ready.

The preparations come at a time when residents of the town have been protesting over rehabilitation and compensation linked to the same development works. For the administration, the challenge is to complete infrastructure on time while keeping the confidence of local families whose livelihoods depend on pilgrims. Updates are expected as the December deadline approaches.
